There's an unexpected poison that creeps into your mind from time to time. Sometimes it hides in plain sight & sometimes it lurks in the shadows. It's powerful & can hold you back from fulfilling your true potential. Do you know what it is?
In the words of Henry Ford, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right."
Out of all the words you should eliminate from your vocabulary...this one should be at the top of the list. DOUBT.
Think of doubt like a seed. You've now planted this seed into your mind because you think you can't do something. The thing is, we are unaware of when we are subconsciously watering this seed and helping it grow. Every excuse you make, negative thought you have, and every time you put off whatever needs to get done, this seed of doubt is now growing into a plant. Not the good kind of plant either. No lilacs or daisies growing here! Nope, weeds & thorn bushes are the types of plants I'd imagine growing from seeds of doubt.
Now these plants have grown SO BIG that they're now blocking your potential pathway to your goals. All because of the power of the mind. You can either use the power of the mind to your advantage or you can let it work against you. In order to use it to your advantage you must eliminate your doubts.
Now let's get off the topic of metaphorical plants made from your doubts and look at a real world example. Let's say you want to lose 25-30 pounds by the end of 2020. That's a great goal, but what could cause someone to plant seeds of doubt into their mind?
- "Well, 5 months have already passed and I haven't really made any progress yet."
- 'Well, the gyms are closed and I have no motivation to workout at home"
- "I don't know what workouts I should do."
You get the point. ALL of these little excuses are BIG factors in helping your doubt GROW & paralyzing you into not starting on your goals. That negative attitude is absolutely not going to help you achieve your goal.
It must stop now.
Now let's revisit your goal of losing 30 pounds by the time the ball drops and we're living in 2021(Can't come soon enough right?!). This is absolutely achievable. Let's do some math now. There are 7 months left until January 2021. What's 30 divided by 7? ~4lbs(just a little more) So, you're trying to tell me you can't lose 4lbs a month? Yes you can. It starts by taking action.
If you want to eliminate doubt & pluck those seeds from your mind you need to take action today. Not tomorrow, not next week. TODAY.
Now that we've established that you can in fact reach your goal, let's break it down even more. That's what you have to do when you set goals that may seem big to you now. We've already started to break it down by realizing you only need to lose around 4-5lbs a month. So what can you do today that would get you started on that goal?
- Let's analyze how your eating habits are. Could you clean up your diet? That's a start.
- Could you drink 8-12 cups of water today?
- 30-60 minutes of movement(Get the heart rate up, go for a walk/run/jog.)
- A good night's sleep of preferably 7 or 8 hours.
- Could you hire a coach or trainer that could guide you step by step and help hold you accountable? ( Plugging my own training business here !)
These are all simple habits that can help you move the needle of progress towards achievement of your goal. Day by day those habits will help you GROW a great garden within your mind now. A garden full of confidence, motivation, & belief that you can & WILL achieve your goal.
Doubt holds you back. BELIEF helps move you forward.
When you can see yourself where you want to be, you help prepare your mind for the work that's required to get you there. Visualize & take action. Rinse & repeat. Now what word were we talking about earlier? I don't know, I've already taken it out of my vocabulary :)
